Diana Danielyan, known under the artist name Barev, is a French and Armenian photographer and designer living in Yerevan, Armenia. She is the first artist selected for our SCAW program (Socially Conscious Artists around the World) thanks to her impressive and unique designs inspired from her life in France and Armenia.
Decorglee – Diana, when did you decide to pursue an artistic career and why?
Diana – I have always been passionate about art, in all its forms. I have lived in Paris for many years, where I studied architecture and design in the historical Sèvres workshops, as well as Art History. Since then I have always known this was my path.
Decorglee – What are your inspirations?
Diana – My art is deeply impregnated with the images, colors and sounds of my motherland. I grew up in Ijevan until I was 4, in the North-East of Armenia, a beautiful place surrounded by the mountains, that used to be so peaceful. I decided to come back at 26 and permanently stay. More than the beautiful sightings here, I am more inspired by my everyday life and my Tatik, the grandmother, who is really the heart of our large family.
Decorglee – Armenia had such an impact on your art. But what about Paris? You lived there for more than 20 years.
Diana – I am also French so it is so important to me. I developed all my photography and design techniques in Paris, both at school and during my different architecture. I also worked for the Bon Marché, where I developed a certain idea of refinement and got in love with Haute-Couture. This is so much more than a luxury mall, it is the essence of French savoir-vivre. You must go there if you have the chance to come to Paris.
Decorglee – How would you define your style? For which interior would you see your signed posters?
Diana – I would say modern Pop-Art. I work with common objects and scene from my life here, people… applying electric colors and focusing on the details to make them almost paranormal. My clients usually hang my posters in modern and simple interiors, where the energy works the best.
Decorglee – Why working with posters?
Diana – I wanted to have an international reach, so the world could here about our life in Armenia. It is a safe and peaceful place, this is what I am trying to show to the world. Posters are easy to send worldwide and very strong thanks to Decorglee materials and printing techniques. Moreover, I do limited and signed editions to make them really special.
Decorglee - Thank you Diana, we are so thrilled to help you achieve that thanks to Decorglee's international reach. Please see below few Barev's art pieces, available for sell in limited edition. Check our store for more.
